ribes

vidi un giorno una ragazza che dondolava per la città. sì, hai capito bene, ho usato il verbo dondolare. perché lei non stava semplicemente camminando, oh, no. lei si muoveva continuamente, prima a destra e poi a sinistra, e riusciva ad andare dritta. voglio dire, non era come l’andatura di un ubriaco. procedeva lungo la sua via, aveva un percorso ben preciso in mente, una meta insomma. ma per raggiungerla scuoteva la testa e il corpo, come se ascoltasse musica con le cuffie. no, non aveva cuffie alle orecchie, ho controllato. le passai accanto – dovetti aumentare di molto la mia andatura abituale - e la guardai di lato. niente cuffie. capelli raccolti in una coda, orecchie piccole, sorriso su labbra strette e rosse, occhi a fessura per mettere meglio a fuoco la luce. insomma, era il ritratto della felicità. mi sembrava che i suoi pensieri fossero sufficienti per vedere tutto bello, lucente, sereno, degno di essere affrontato. ti giuro, prima di quel giorno mai avevo incontrato una persona così, come posso dire, leggera? sì, leggera.

sì, lei si accorse di me. chiaro, per quanto fosse assorta nei suoi fantastici pensieri colorati, tuttavia non era completamente assente. si accorse di me e si voltò. mi guardò, senza interrompere la sua andatura, continuando a sbandare, sorridendo. io le camminavo accanto, come un cretino, la guardavo. non ho idea di che sguardo potessi avere, sicuramente assomigliavo ad un grande punto di domanda in giacca e cravatta. credo le sembrassi buffo. ad un tratto si fermò e mi parlò.

mi chiese se poteva aiutarmi. gentile, le risposi. ma no, non avevo bisogno del suo aiuto. e allora perché mi sta seguendo, mi domandò. domanda lecita, pensai. perché mi ha incuriosito. aprì gli occhi. erano enormi, verdi, rotondi. cosa l’ha incuriosita di me? ci pensai per qualche secondo, cercavo una risposta intelligente e adeguata. non la trovai e le dissi semplicemente: l’ho vista camminare strana, dondolava, e sorrideva dondolando. ti giuro, le dissi così, sai come sono io, non è che sia il tipo che si mette a parlare apertamente con gli sconosciuti, men che meno se si tratta di donne. eppure quel giorno mi sentivo forte, spensierato, curioso.
fece un gesto che mi ricorderò per il resto della mia vita. mi prese sottobraccio. te lo giuro su mia nonna. sottobraccio, come un vecchio amico, o un amante. avrei potuto essere suo zio, a dire il vero. zio e nipote sbandata, ecco cosa potevamo sembrare ai passanti che camminavano per quella strada in quel momento.

io non bevo succhi di frutta, ma lei me ne fece bere due. uno all’ananas e un altro al ribes. dolcissimo. partiamo dall’inizio. mi accompagnò in questo bar. era uno di quei posti moderni, bianchi, con mobili lineari, angoli acuti, riviste di design sul tavolo, oste con pochi capelli e gli occhiali piccoli e rettangolari. ordinò due succhi all’ananas. io odio l’ananas. se bevo qualcosa che non sia vino, mi faccio portare l’armagnac. succo all’ananas non lo bevevo da quando portavo i calzoni corti e giocavo a pallone usando gli alberi del parco come pali. eppure non osai contraddirla. mi teneva la mano, e dondolava giù per la sala, accompagnandomi ad un tavolino tra due porte.

bene, mi disse. bene, le risposi. siamo qua, continuò. così pare, apostrofai. avevo sete, si giustificò. io no, ma le faccio volentieri compagnia, continuai. può mangiare, mi venne in soccorso. preferisco bere controvoglia, risposi. le va bene l’ananas, domandò. penso di sì, accennai.

arrivò da bere. brindammo timidamente. sorseggiai quel liquido freddo, dolce e acidulo. mi domandò il mio nome e risposi educatamente. io mi chiamo anna stella, proclamò. annastella attaccato o staccato, completai interrogativo. cheglienefrega, commentò saggiamente. in effetti, mormorai. così vuole sapere perché dondolo felice per la città, arrivò subito al punto. mi giustificai farfugliando qualcosa che conteneva il ma-no-era-così-per-dire.

guardi, e aggiunse il mio nome pronunciandolo con attenzione (tremai), io sono felice perché non ho motivo di non esserlo in assenza di ostacoli evidenti. camminavo, c’era una bella luce, volevo salire su al parco, le mie gambe rispondevano ai miei comandi e trovavo il ronzio della città particolarmente melodico e adeguato a quel momento. pensa che sia pazza?

ti assicuro, avevo perduto le parole. non sapevo se fosse un sogno o uno scherzo. fissai i suoi occhi rotondi che mi stavano perforando e conclusi che era un sogno. eppure avvertivo distintamente il succo schifoso che attraversava il mio esofago e si depositava nello stomaco, mentre finivo il mio bicchiere in un goffo tentativo di prendere tempo.

ha ancora sete? annuii, meditabondo. fu così che ordinò il liquame al ribes. non parlò più. aspettammo che il cameriere tornasse e ci portasse la bevanda. mi misi a bere. quando finii quella robaccia fu come se si fosse rotta una diga dentro di me. le raccontai tutto, del lavoro nuovo, della casa non finita, dei vestiti di lei nell’armadio che non avevo il coraggio di aprire, del funerale di mia nonna, di te, che sei la persona di cui più mi fidi al mondo. insomma, furono decine di minuti di monologo. parlavo ai suoi occhi, che sembravano carta assorbente. condivideva con l’iride e le pupille, sentiva tutto, era una droga. ad un tratto non ebbi più niente da dire. ero esausto. lei si alzò di scatto e andò a pagare. non protestai, non ne avevo la forza. quando tornò da me mi disse: viene su al parco con me ad ascoltare la città dall’alto o sarà troppo occupato a riavvolgere il nastro che mi ha appena sbobinato addosso?

non aggiunsi altro. mi alzai dalla poltroncina bianca e la seguii.
